Planning:
Assess site. Ensure:
- Ground is firm and stable (seek geological surveys
- Safe/ suitable access/egress (trucks, mobile plant)
- Room for equipment, mobile loading plant and materials
- No work within 3m of overhead power lines (including the discharge conveyer when extended).
- Clear of underground assets – Dial before you Dig.
- Able to be positioned safely (allows for visual contact between operators and discharge area, not positioned on or adjacent to previously disturbed or back-filled land, excavations, trenches, pits etc and on level ground)
- Workers are not exposed to site hazards (such as dust containing silica, close proximity to moving plant/vehicles etc).
- Sufficient lighting:
- Including night time operations
- Pit area
- Spoil
- Access/egress areas
- Crusher
- Sufficient warning signs and exclusion zones
- Dust suppression system in place (example: misting, water)
- Suitable PPE provided.
Conduct audiometric testing, at commencement of employment and at least every 2 years for employees required to wear hearing protectors. Keep records.
