Pre-operational Inspection:

Inspect all equipment before use. Examples:

Power tools:

  • Tools are visually inspected for any damage
  • Vents; filters etc clear and free of dust/debris
  • Outside casing not damaged
  • Fans and cooling devices functional
  • No loose or missing screws, nuts, bolts
  • Guards prevent access to danger areas
  • Triggers do not stick or are faulty
  • Battery charging areas well ventilated
  • Batteries fully charged
  • Emergency stops and safety devices tested and functional

Electrical:

  • RCDs installed
  • Ensure leads/plugs are not damaged
  • Use pendants, lead-stands or insulated cable hangers for leads
  • Ensure all equipment and leads are tested and tagged as required for use.
  • Do not use electrical equipment in wet or damp areas or in inclement weather.

PPE:

  • Suitable for task
  • Clean, undamaged and maintained.

If equipment is damaged, do not use. Take out of service, apply Lock-out/tag-out, (LOTO) procedures and inform supervisor immediately.
