Pre-operational Inspection:
Inspect grinder. Ensure:
- Discs free of damage / wear, not damp or been dropped, correct for job
- Guards in place:
- Cover half of disc between operator and disc
- Secured adequately
- Resist bending / twisting
- Controls operate smoothly
- Flanges, nuts are not worn, damaged or missing
- Auxiliary handle:
- Present
- Secured
- Adjusted correctly for operator
- Body casing is undamaged
- Vents clean
- Dead-man or cut-off switch in place
- Brush caps intact and secured
- Discs labelled (RPM and type)
- Controls cannot be locked into "on" position
- No excessive vibration
Ensure all electrical leads and equipment are
- Undamaged (inspect entire length of lead and plug)
- Tested and Tagged
- Safety switches (RCD's) used
- Not placed in area where they pose tripping hazard or could be run over
If grinder is damaged or unsuitable for the task, do not use. Take out of service immediately and apply LOTE (Lock-Out / Tag-Out) procedures.
