Planning
Ensure truck and all lifting/supporting equipment is suitable for task and marked with SWL.
Plan travel route. Avoid:
- Narrow roads and round-a-bouts
- Reversing wherever possible
- Peak traffic times
- School zones
Ensure travel path will not damage utilities (gas, telecommunication, electrical, water, sewerage systems), or bridges, rail, or other property.
Assess intended un/loading site. Ensure:
- Clear of overhead power-lines
- Clear of obstructions such as tree branches etc
- Clear of property that may be damaged during unloading (parked cars, houses etc)
- Angle of the ground less than 5 degrees
- Ground is firm and suitable
- Loads will not be lifted over personnel
- Sufficient space and operator room
- Sufficient visibility and lighting
- Placement will not cause traffic congestion
- Traffic management provided if required.
