Planning
For a fall risk 2m or above, conduct risk assessment to determine suitable work at height equipment. Consider:
- Type and duration of task
- Ground condition
- Expected work height
- Physical surroundings
- Operator experience
- Safe working loads
- Whether type of work may impact load capacity or stability (Example: using extended poles)
- Proximity to work area (over-reach)
- Stable surface to rest ladders upon and tie-down
- Contact with Elevated Work Platform (EWP) or ladder (pedestrian or vehicle)
- Live electrical work in close proximity (only non-conductive ladders/ insulated EWP)
- Lighting
- Weather conditions (high winds, rain)
- Catchment equipment (such as tool lanyard) to ensure tool/equipment cannot fall from heights
- Licenses and training required for use of EWP, scaffold erection etc.
- Traffic Management and Site access restrictions
- Visibility (sun glare, nearby processes/persons working at ground level, window awnings etc)
